Peppermint Mimosas with Candy Canes

You were wondering what to do with all those candy canes at Christmas time. I’m just suggesting that this is a good way to go.

Peppermint mimosas will dress up your Christmas or holiday brunch with its pretty pink color and candy cane garnish. The peppermint flavor is refreshingly spirited and the peppermint vodka gives it a little pink kick.

You can even make your own candy cane vodka! It’s not difficult, though it does take a bit of time to infuse the vodka with candy canes. It results in a really pretty bright red vodka that can be used in many holiday drinks, including this one.

Where to Get Peppermint or Candy Cane Vodka

If you head to the liquor store, you’ll no doubt be able to find a few different brands of peppermint or candy cane vodka. Smirnoff has one called Peppermint Twist.

If you can’t find it or just want to try making your own, it’s not too difficult to make a batch of candy cane vodka with just a few ingredients. Here’s a recipe and how to, if you want to give it a try.

Ingredients You’ll Need

  • Peppermint vodka – peppermint or candy cane vodka. Smirnoff has one called Peppermint Twist or you can make your own peppermint vodka using this recipe.
  • Champagne – your choice of Champagne or Prosecco.
  • Candy canes – you will crush some to rim your glass and keep some whole as garnish.

How to Make a Peppermint Mimosa

This recipe makes 2 cocktails because it’s more fun to drink holiday cocktails with friends!

Start by crushing up a candy cane into tiny pieces. You can do this by putting the candy cane in a plastic baggy and crushing it with something – I use a meat mallet.

Pour the pieces onto a plate. Dab your finger in a bit of the vodka and wet the rims of the Champagne flutes. Roll the rims in the candy bits and set it aside.

All you need to do to make this cocktail is pour an ounce of vodka into each Champagne flute, then top up with your choice of Champagne or Prosecco.

Don’t forget to add a candy cane for garnish!

Doesn’t turn pink and tastes unpleasant. After trying the recipe as is and seeing that it didn’t turn pink, I added a dash of cranberry in hopes of saving it and giving a pink color. It did turn it a more desirable pinkish color, but unfortunately couldn’t salvage the taste. Glad I tested it out before having our holiday party. A big no for me
