This Classic Whiskey Sour Cocktail combines bourbon, lemon juice and simple syrup for an easy to make drink you will want to add to your happy hour rotation.
There are so many flavors in this cocktail. Sweet, sour and the rich flavor of Bourbon all mix to create the perfect sip.
Ingredients in a Whiskey Sour
The ingredients you need for this cocktail are:
- Whiskey (we use a single-barrel Bourbon)
- Lemon juice
- Simple syrup (which is 1 part water to 1 part sugar, heated up so the sugar can dissolve, then cooled before use)
- Egg white
- Angostura Bitters
- Maraschino cherry for the top
The egg white is what adds the froth to the top of the cocktail and makes it appear a bit hazy. There’s nothing special you need to do to froth it. You just add the egg whites to the cocktail shaker with the rest of the ingredients and shake vigorously to combine it all.

What are Bitters?
Bitters were originally developed in the 1800’s to relieve stomach ailments but quickly became a staple for bartenders everywhere. They provide a unique and complex flavor. Bitters are to cocktails what salt is to food.
In this recipe we are using Angostura bitters which has an aroma of fruit, spices and herbs. But there are a many different flavors to explore that will add uniqueness and body to your next cocktail.
