Eggnog makes the perfect base for just about any type of alcohol, but we use brandy and dark rum for this cocktail.
We also use a store-bought eggnog to make things super simple. I polled a bunch of my friends to see if they would make this cocktail if they also had to make their own eggnog, and most of them said no.
It doesn’t take a long time to make eggnog, but it’s a step too far for many. Especially if you’re serving this at your Christmas celebration, you want it to be super easy to make, with no fuss. And that’s what this recipe delivers.
Mix the eggnog with brandy and rum in a cocktail shaker with ice. That’s actually all you need to do. The next step is to add a spicy garnish to the rim of your glass. It’s optional. But it does add a nice spicy festive decoration.

Eggnog Cocktail
Ingredients
- .5 oz Brandy
- .5 oz dark rum
- 3 oz store bought eggnog
- Dash nutmeg
- Dash cinnamon
- 1/8 tsp sugar
- 1 cinnamon stick for garnish
Instructions
- Mix the brandy, rum and eggnog in a cocktail shaker with ice.
- Add the nutmeg, cinnamon and sugar to a small plate. Wet the rim of a glass with rum. Roll the rim of the glass in the spices.
- Strain the cocktail into the glass. Garnish with cinnamon stick.
Notes
- If you don’t like a strong drink, half the amount of liquor or use just brandy or rum, rather than both.
- Make sure to shake the cocktail well, to chill it sufficiently. This will reduce the "heat" of the liquor.
