Fried Chicken Sliders using chicken thighs are a delicious and crowd-pleasing meal that’s perfect for any occasion. These sliders are packed with flavor and texture, making them a must-try for anyone who loves crispy, juicy, and satisfying fried chicken.

The beauty of these sliders is that they are versatile and can be enjoyed in many ways. For example, you could serve them as a main course with some fries or a salad on the side, or you could serve them as an appetizer or snack for a gathering.

With a few basic ingredients and a little bit of time, you can have a delicious and impressive meal ready to go in no time. Plus, the fact that they can be prepared ahead of time and reheated as needed makes them a great option for busy weeknights or last-minute gatherings.

The small size of the sliders allows for a perfect balance of chicken and toppings in every bite, ensuring that each bite is delicious and flavorful.

Ingredients You’ll Need

Ingredients for fried chicken sliders
  • Chicken Thighs – Boneless, skinless chicken thighs are the best for these sandwiches because they hold their moisture better than breast, but you can use 2″x2″ pieces of chicken breast if you like.
  • Egg – Mixed with the sour cream, this forms the crust on the chicken.
  • Sour Cream – This helps adhere the flour to the chicken.
  • All-Purpose Flour – Flour helps form the breading on the chicken, so there’s no need to use breadcrumbs for a crunchy exterior.
  • Seasonings: Salt & freshly ground black pepper, garlic powder, smoked paprika
  • Oil – For frying the chicken. Choose something with a high smoke point, like vegetable oil.
  • Pickle Slices – A nice thick dill pickle slice is perfect.
  • Cabbage – Shredded for extra crunch in the slider.
  • Carrot – Shredded carrot is optional to add to the cabbage for a little extra color.
  • Mayonnaise – For the slaw
  • Apple Cider Vinegar – Added to the slaw to bring it together.
  • Slider Buns – My favorite brand is King’s Hawaiian Rolls but you can use your preferred brand if you want to. I’ve used the regular buns and the pretzel buns.

How to Make Fried Chicken Sliders

In a bowl, mix the egg and sour cream until smooth. Pour the flour, salt, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and black pepper into a sealable plastic bag.

Getting the seasoned flour ready

Dip the chicken pieces in the egg mixture, one at a time, then coat them in flour in the bag.

When you finish dipping the pieces, set them on a wire rack to wait while the oil heats up.

Battered chicken on a drying rack

In a large heavy skillet, heat the oil until it reaches 375° F. It’s important to reach this temperature so the chicken doesn’t soak up all of the oil.

Carefully add the chicken to the oil and cook for about 5 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy. Remove to a wire rack to cool slightly.

Frying the chicken

Mix the cabbage and carrot in a bowl with the mayonnaise and apple cider vinegar.

To prepare the sliders, lightly toast the buns, place a piece of chicken on each bun. Top with slaw and a pickle.

Additional Helpful Tips

  • Fry the chicken in batches to avoid overcrowding the skillet and ensure even cooking.
  • If you want to make the sliders ahead of time, you can prep the chicken and coating in advance and fry them just before serving.
  • Make sure the oil is at the right temperature before adding the chicken. If the oil is too hot, the chicken will burn on the outside and be undercooked on the inside. If it’s not hot enough, the coating will become greasy and the chicken won’t be as crispy.
  • Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature of the chicken. It should be at least 165°F before serving.
  • For a little kick of heat try making this creamy chipotle coleslaw.
