Hippie Juice is the perfect big batch cocktail to make for a crowd. It’s fresh and fruity, and a fun easy drinker cocktail for barbecues and get-togethers.

If you’ve never heard of Hippie Juice before, you’re probably not alone, but it’s definitely time to learn! This is one of the most refreshing summer cocktails you can make.
And the best part about it is that it’s made in a large batch, so you can serve it like punch at a party. I’ve never encountered someone who doesn’t love it. Another large batch drink to try is this cinnamon apple cider sangria or red wine sangria.
There are a few theories floating around out there about how Hippie Juice became a thing, but does it really matter? However it came about and got its name, it’s a tasty drink that is easy to make!

Ingredients in Hippie Juice
Just like punch, there are many different variations you can make. I’ve seen probably a dozen different Hippie Juice recipes. While the basic ingredients are similar, quantities vary. We’ve made a version that we think tastes best.
In our Hippie Juice, we use:
- Pink Lemonade
- Watermelon Vodka
- Coconut Rum
We also use a sparkly rim sugar for the glass, just to make it extra pretty. This is optional. You can use any rim sugar you have on hand, or skip that step.

How to Make Hippie Juice
This recipe is for a pitcher of Hippie Juice. It makes 24 oz or around 6 cocktails. Below, I’ll also include the quantities for just one cocktail, in case you won’t be making it for a crowd.
You’ll need a pitcher – preferably with a lid that can fit back into your refrigerator, to keep the cocktail chilled when you’re not pouring.
To make a big batch, just mix together all the ingredients in the pitcher and stir it up. Super easy.
I like to serve these cocktails in a coupe glass. It’s classy and super pretty. But you can also serve them in a tumbler over ice, if you want.
Recipe for just one cocktail:
- 2 oz pink lemonade
- 1 oz Malibu Rum
- 1 oz Watermelon Vodka
But why would you only serve one? 😉

This looks so refreshing. Perfect for a socially distanced garden party.
That’s exactly what we made it for! 🙂
Loving all the flavors in this! Definitely summertime in a cocktail.
Mmm this looks like a cocktail I’d LOVE! I might add a salted rim instead because that’s just me but it’s definitely getting made!
Lemon is one of my favorite flavor any day and this Cocktail looks refreshing. Your presentation is so picture perfect and tempting.
This looks awesome! I think I might try it with grapefruit vodka, as I have that on hand already!
I think it would work fine, as long as it’s not too bitter. You might need more sugar to counteract.
