This Frozen Red, White & Blue Lemonade Cocktail is the perfect addition to your 4th of July barbecue. It is a show stopper with its layered grenadine, vodka lemonade and blue curacao.

Frozen Vodka Lemonade

Usually you would pull your blender out to make a drink like this, but after trying it a few times I found that I get the best results from freezing the ingredients rather than blending it with ice. Ice tends to water the drink down as it melts, which is clearly not as fun.

So, to make this cocktail, separate the lemonade into 3 quart-size freezer bags. In the first bag, add the grenadine. In the second bag, add the vodka. And in the third bag, add the blue curacao.

If you want the colors more vibrant, just add more grenadine or blue curacao. I really like the light colors that I got from the amounts in this recipe.

Seal the bags up, shake them around a little to mix the color, then freeze it for at least 5 hours. The more frozen they are, the better. The layers will come out better and won’t melt into each other as easily if they are frozen thoroughly.

Frozen Vodka Lemonade

This drink can easily be made into a mocktail. Just leave the vodka out and use a blue curacao-flavored syrup instead of the alcoholic version. My kids volunteered as taste testers and really enjoyed the mocktail version.

If you’re making this for a 4th of July party, everyone can enjoy them without the booze.

However, adults deserve cold frosty cocktails to to cool off with, and this is perfect for a hot summer day. If you like this cocktail you might try our frozen gin & tonic or this pineapple rum slush. Plenty of summer libations to go around on this site.

Hi Emmeline, you could use any red fruit juice and just substitute it for the grenadine/lemonade mixture. It would taste good and keep your red, white and blue color theme. 🙂
