Watermelon Margaritas are the perfect drink for a hot summer day, blended with ice to make a wonderfully sweet and refreshing take on a classic.
I started making these Watermelon Margaritas after finding an amazing recipe for Watermelon Margarita Bites. You have to try that recipe, especially since you’ve got some watermelon that you need to use up. You can make them both together.
For that recipe, you make this wonderful margarita syrup that you use to marinate the watermelon. I used that leftover marinade to combine with some of the leftover pieces of watermelon I had and it was insanely good.
That’s how this Watermelon Margarita became one of my favorite summer drinks.
How to Make Watermelon Margaritas
You’re going to be so happy when you hear this. It’s insanely easy to make these margaritas.
Just combine the watermelon, tequila, lime juice, and orange liqueur with the ice in a blender. Blend until smooth.
For the tequila, I recommend using a 100% agave tequila. It doesn’t have to be the top of the line, expensive bottle, which we reserve for sipping. But it should have a nice clean flavor. Here are 3 options we like, ranging from $15 to $35 a bottle.
Optional: Wet the rim of the margarita glasses and roll in sugar or salt – or go without – entirely up to you. I often don’t want to add the extra sugar, so I skip it.
Pour the cocktail evenly into the two glasses. Garnish with your choice of accoutrement. I like to use fresh basil or mint – whatever I have on hand.
You can also skewer some watermelon on a cocktail stick, or drop in a few of the candied jalapenos from the Watermelon Margarita Appetizers, if you made those also.
