Fried pickles are a deliciously tangy snack that has gained popularity as a fun appetizer or side dish. With their crispy coating and juicy pickle flavor, they’re sure to be a hit at any gathering.
Whether you prefer the healthier option of air frying or the classic deep-fried method, this recipe will guide you through both techniques so you can enjoy these tasty bites at home.

Once your fried pickles are cooked to perfection, serve them hot with your favorite dipping sauce, such as ranch dressing, spicy mayo, or a tangy dill dip. These crispy treats are perfect for game day, parties, or simply as a tasty snack at home.
Helpful Tips
- Choose the Right Pickles: For the best results, use dill pickles for that classic tangy flavor. You can also experiment with other varieties, such as spicy or bread-and-butter pickles, for a unique twist.
- Pat Dry: Make sure to thoroughly dry the pickles before breading. This step is crucial for achieving a crispy coating and preventing the breading from becoming soggy.
- Don’t Overcrowd: Whether air frying or deep frying, avoid overcrowding the basket or pot. This ensures even cooking and allows the pickles to crisp up nicely.

Crispy Fried Pickles: Air Fryer or Deep Fried
Ingredients
- 1 cup sliced dill pickles
- 1/4 cup flour
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup fine breadcrumbs
- Olive oil cooking spray
Instructions
- Thoroughly dry the pickle slices on a paper towel to remove any excess juice. Leave them on the paper towels for at least 15 minutes. Press gently to release a bit more juice.
- To set up your dredging station, mix together the flour, garlic powder, seasoned salt, and chili powder in a bowl. Beat the egg in another bowl. Add the breadcrumbs to a 3rd bowl.
- Coat each pickle slice in the flour mixture, then the egg mixture, then the breadcrumbs and place it into the air fryer basket. Be sure to space the pickles apart so they aren’t touching in the basket.
Air Fryer Instructions
- Spray the tops of the pickles with the cooking oil. This is what will make them crispy, so don’t skip this step.
- Cook at 375° F for 5 minutes. Turn them over and spray the tops again. Continue cooking for another 4-6 minutes, until crispy.
Deep Fry Method
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or a heavy pot to 350°F (175°C). Carefully add the breaded pickles in batches, frying for about 2-3 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
