These Chicken & Waffles Sliders are not only visually appealing but also deliver a delightful combination of flavors and textures. The crispy chicken paired with the soft, warm waffles and sweet maple syrup creates a satisfying bite that’s hard to resist.

You can buy frozen waffles to make it even easier or make your own if you have a waffle maker. You can make one large waffle and cut out enough pieces for 4 sliders.

Helpful Tips

  • Make It Ahead: If you’re hosting a large gathering, consider frying the chicken and making the waffles ahead of time. Reheat them in the oven at a low temperature to keep everything warm and crispy before serving.
  • Customize Your Flavors: Feel free to add your favorite spices to the chicken coating for an extra kick. A pinch of cayenne pepper or smoked paprika can add a delightful depth of flavor to the chicken.
  • Experiment with Toppings: While maple syrup is a classic choice, consider offering additional toppings like hot sauce, honey, or even a dollop of whipped cream for a unique twist. This allows guests to customize their sliders to their taste.

HOMEMADE WAY

  • 1 pound boneless chicken breasts cut into small pieces
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon EACH salt and ground black pepper
  • Oil for frying

For the waffles

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons butter melted

Instructions

  • In a bowl, soak the chicken pieces in buttermilk for at least 30 minutes to tenderize the meat.
  • In another bowl, combine the flour, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  • Heat oil in a deep skillet or fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  • Remove the chicken from the buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off. Dredge each piece in the seasoned flour mixture.
  • Fry the chicken in batches until golden brown and cooked through, about 4-5 minutes per side. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  • Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • In another bowl, combine the buttermilk, egg, and melted butter. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  • Lightly grease the waffle iron and pour the batter according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Cook until golden brown and crispy. Repeat until all the batter is used.
  • Cut the waffles into 4, or use a cookie cutter to cut circles out.
  • Place a piece of fried chicken on a piece of waffle. Drizzle with maple syrup. Repeat with the remaining waffles and chicken. Serve with more maple syrup on the side.
