I definitely jumped on the Everything But the Bagel dip craze when it started. It’s kind of the perfect seasoning because it has a little bit of everything. It’s great on everything bagel salmon and in everything bagel hummus and so tasty in this dip recipe too.

Helpful Tips

  • For a smoother consistency, ensure the cream cheese is fully softened at room temperature before mixing. This makes blending easier and creates a creamier texture for the dip.
  • This dip can be made ahead of time. Consider preparing it a day before serving to allow the flavors to meld even more for a richer taste.
  • If you can’t find pre-made everything bagel seasoning, you can easily create your own blend by using equal parts of sesame seeds, poppy seeds, dried minced garlic, dried minced onion, and a pinch of salt.
  • If you’re hosting a gathering, consider doubling the recipe. This dip tends to disappear quickly, and having extra ensures everyone gets a taste.
  • Be careful when adding the Everything seasoning as some brands are very salty. You don’t want to over salt your dip!

How to Make Everything But the Bagel Dip

Step 1: Mix the Creamy Ingredients

Mixing the creamy ingredients

In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese and sour cream until smooth and well combined.

Step 2: Mix in the Spices

Mixing in the spices.

Before you add the everything bagel seasoning, give it a taste. Some versions are really salty and this can ruin your dip if it’s overly salty. Make sure also that you’re using garlic and onion powder, not salt.

I recommend starting out with 2 tablespoons of seasoning and adding more only if you think it’s necessary or that it’s not becoming overly salty. You can always add more of the other spices if you think it needs more flavor.

Add the chives, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix all the ingredients together until the seasoning is evenly distributed throughout the dip. Transfer the dip to a serving bowl.

Step 3: Refrigerate

Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Before serving, sprinkle a little extra everything bagel seasoning and chopped chives on top for garnish, if desired.

Serve the everything bagel dip with your favorite crackers, pretzels, or fresh vegetable sticks.
