This recipe is perfect for parties, game day, or anytime you want an easy appetizer that looks impressive but doesn’t take much effort. The puff pastry does all the heavy lifting, while the jalapeño, cream cheese, and cheddar filling bring that familiar popper flavor in a handheld, shareable form.

Helpful Tips

  • Keep the pastry cold. Puff pastry is easier to work with and bakes flakier when it’s chilled, so don’t let it sit out too long before assembling.
  • Adjust the spice. Use fresh jalapeños for more heat or canned mild green chiles if you want a gentler flavor.
  • Serve warm. These twists are best right out of the oven when the cheese is melty and the pastry is crisp.

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry thawed
  • 3 jalapeño peppers thinly sliced
  • 6 ounces cream cheese softened
  • 6 strips bacon cooked and chopped
  • 8 ounces sharp cheddar grated
  • 1 egg beaten
  • Ranch dressing for serving

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Dust lightly with flour.
  • Unroll the puff pastry sheet and roll it out to about ¼” thick.
  • Spread the softened cream cheese over half of the puff pastry sheet, then add on the jalapeno slices, half of the cheese, and the bacon.
  • Fold the other half over the top and press together to sandwich it together firmly.
  • Use a sharp knife or pizza cutter to slice it into ½” thick strips. Twist each strip and place them spaced out on the baking sheet.
  • Brush them each with the beaten egg, then sprinkle on the remaining cheddar.
  • Place the sheet on the middle rack of the oven and bake for about 18 minutes, rotating the pan halfway through, until golden brown.
  • Serve with Ranch dressing or another dipping sauce of your choice.
