Chocolate Dipped Orange Slices

These Chocolate Dipped Orange Slices are just candied oranges dipped in dark chocolate and left to harden. They are a perfect accompaniment for cocktails and afternoon appetizers.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 oranges
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3 ounces dark chocolate

Instructions
 

  • Wash oranges well. Cut the ends off the orange and discard. Slice remaining orange into ¼ inch thick slices.
  • In a large pot over medium high heat, stir the water and sugar until the sugar is dissolved. Bring to a gentle boil and add orange slices.
  • Reduce the heat to med low until it is just barely simmering. Cook oranges until they are translucent, turning over at least once. 40-60 minutes depending on the size of the orange slice.
  • Remove orange slices from the pot and place on a wire rack over a baking sheet covered in parchment paper to cool and harden at least 2 hours or overnight.
  • Melt chocolate in a double boiler, dip half the orange in and them place them on parchment paper or a silicon mat to harden at least an hour. Store them in an air tight container on the counter for 1 week or in the refrigerator for a month.
